How to Get More Google Reviews (and Why They Decide Who Wins)

By Samita Gupta, Founder of Brandquake · 10 March 2026

Google reviews are the biggest lever in local search. Here’s how to get more of them — ethically and consistently — and turn them into customers.

Two businesses, same street, same prices. One has 200 reviews at 4.8 stars; the other has 12. Guess who gets the customer. Reviews are the most underrated growth lever a local business has — here's how to win them.

Why reviews matter so much

How to get more — ethically

  1. Just ask. Most happy customers will, if you make it easy and it's the right moment (right after a great experience).
  2. Make it one tap. Share your direct review link via WhatsApp — don't make people hunt.
  3. Ask steadily. 2–4 a week looks natural and ranks better than 20 in a day (which can look fake).
  4. Guide gently. A line on what you did and the result makes the review far more powerful.
  5. Never buy fake reviews — Google detects them and can suspend you.

Reply to every one

Thank the good ones, handle the rare bad one calmly and professionally. Google rewards engagement, and future customers read how you respond.
